Dr. Brian Michael Kalla, 52, of Chattanooga, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, January 3, 2014. Dr. Kalla attended the University of Michigan where he received his Bachelor Degree in biology. He attended medical school at the University of Texas, School of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He completed a transitional year program and two additional residency training programs in Internal Medicine at the same university before moving to Chattanooga. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. Dr. Kalla completed his four years of residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Siskin Hospital including an additional year as Administrative Chief Resident. He was board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. As a staff physician at Siskin Hospital in 2001, he was also an instructor with the Chattanooga Unit of the University of Tennessee, College of Medicine residency training program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation based at Siskin Hospital. Dr. Kalla was currently practicing at Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation and Memorial Hospital. He specialized in spinal cord injury and orthopedic rehabilitation, wound care management, and acute pain management. Dr. Kalla was a member of the Tennessee Medical Association, the Chattanooga and Hamilton County Medical Society, and the Association of Academic Physiatrists. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Liner Kalla; two sons, Joseph Houston Kalla, Brandon Travis Kalla; daughter, Sarah Caroline Kalla; parents, Richard and Alice Kalla; brothers, David (Eileen) Kalla,
Mark (Kim) Kalla, Robert (Lisa) Kalla; several nieces and nephews. At Dr. Kalla’s wishes his body was donated to the University of Texas, School of Medicine in Houston, Texas. The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Wednesday, January 7, 2014 for a Time of Remembrance on the second floor Conference Center at Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation.
