William Ronald James of Lafayette, passed away July 23, 2014. Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and “teammate.” Ron was born and raised in Rossville, Georgia graduating in 1960 from Rossville High School where he and his lifelong friends won the Georgia High School State Baseball Championship in 1959 with Ron being the team’s shortstop. He attended Florida Southern College in Lakeland Florida, where he was on the baseball, basketball and volleyball teams as well as a member of Theta Ki Fraternity. After graduation, Ron began his career as a high school teacher and coach where he ultimately returned to Rossville High School coaching the Bulldogs in baseball and basketball before moving into administration as a principal at Center Post and North Rossville Elementary. Ron retired from Walker County after 30 years in education. Following retirement, Ron continued his love of sports by playing senior softball. Ron also raised and raced several greyhounds across the country having first gained a love of greyhounds at Derby Lane in Tampa while attending Florida Southern. Ron was preceded in death by his father and mother Robert and Geneva James. Survivors include his wife Rosemary; daughter Ronda (Terry) McDaniel; sons Lance James, Brent (Chardel) James, Geoff James, Shawn (Lacey) Bible and Ashley (Erin) Bible; five grandchildren Ava James, Lyla and Hattie Bible, Sidney and Gavin Chandler. The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 PM Friday at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. David Harr officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson, TN.
