Hugh Lamont “Monty” Chancey, 56, of Ringgold GA passed away on April 23, 2024 . He is survived by Karen Chancey, his devoted wife of 25 years. He is survived by his mother, Marie, and brother and sister-in-law, Jony and Christina Chancey. He is also survived by several Aunts, Uncles, nieces and nephews, Cadence and Kynlee Jumper, Sarah (Chancey), Melissa, Andy, Hayden, Harrison (Spence), Amy, Nate, Will, Anna, Benjamin (Bechtol), Shelley, Michael, Ryker (Hayes), and Sheila, Ryan, Tori, and Casey (Shults), and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Gilbert Chancey.

Monty grew up in Ringgold GA. Monty received Christ as his savior and was baptized in 1984 at Ringgold First Baptist Church. He graduated high school in 1986 where he played football and basketball. He was proud to be awarded Mr. Tiger in 1985. He attended the University of Chattanooga and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He moved to Cody Wyoming in 1993 with his good friend Stan Guess. They spent their time hiking and fishing and simply enjoying all the west and the Grand Tetons had to offer. He returned to Ringgold a year later and began working at Moccasin Bend Hospital where he met his wife Karen. They were married in 1999 and began a life together in Ringgold. Monty owned several business in his lifetime but his proudest achievement was the work he did at Lighthouse. He and his friend Eric Coney, along with their wives, began Lighthouse Foster Care in 2003. They have served many children in Catoosa County and the surround area. Monty had many friends that he spent time with traveling, playing cards, and attending sporting events. He was an excellent cook, master craftsmen and repairman. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t build or repair. It could be said that Monty’s fondest memories were of Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations each year and spending time with his family and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday May 3rd from 4-8 pm at Heritage Funeral Home located at 3239 Battlefield Pkwy, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742. The funeral services will take place Saturday, May 4th at 2:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home with internment immediately following at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Ringgold. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lighthouse Foster Care and Ringgold First Baptist Church.

Pall bearers are Matt Chancey, Joe Chancey, David Gibbs, Ryan Shults, Joel Roberson, Oliver Rhudy, and Mark Gamble. Honorary pall bearers are : Gary Guy, Joe Hanrahan, Ronnie Robinson, and Eric Coney.
