Obituary:
William Arthur “Aut” Morton Sr., 89, Fort Oglethorpe, ended his battle of life to go to a better place, Wednesday, January 27, 2010. He fought in World War II under general George Patton, in what he called “the greatest generation that ever lived.” God bless. Mr. Morton was awarded a Purple Heart, four Bronze Stars and numerous awards and citations for bravery and dedication to country, family, and God. He was preceded in death by parents, William H. and Phoebe Morgan Morton; brothers, Charles, Gaston, Paul and Eugene; sisters, Hazel Haas and Carrie lee; daughters, Willie Louise and Ann Kubis; son, Bruce. Survivors are his wife, Alma Byrd Morton; sons, William A. (Evelyn) Morton Jr., Mukwonago, Wisconsin, Robert A. (Tori) Morton, Pineville, Tenn.; daughter, Debbie (Richard) Svickle, Plymouth, Minnesota, also, Alice “Mildred” Lowe Morton, Golden Valley, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law; many cousins, nephews and longtime friends. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in National Cemetery with a U. S. Military Chaplain officiating. Interment in National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VVA Chapter 203, P. O. Box 23405, Chattanooga, TN 37422.
