Obituary:
Lawrence Daily Kennedy, 92, went home to be with his Lord on March 5, 2010. He was anxious to follow his wife of 61 years, Virginia Petitt Kennedy, who died in February 2009. Lawrence was born on April 2, 1917 and raised in Meigs County. He and Virginia lived in Chattanooga for the past 20 years to be near their children, Vicki and Glenn. Mr. Kennedy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He retired from TVA as a boilermaker in 1979. He continued to work the farm until moving to Chattanooga. He was a member of the Tyner United Methodist Church and prior member of the Decatur United Methodist Church. He enjoyed talking with people. He was proud to have served his country in World War II, where he served in the Army Infantry for four years in North Africa, Corsica, and France. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley and Sallie O'Daniel Kennedy, brothers; Sammy, Charles, Roy, Gilbert, Elmer, and John Kennedy, and his sister, Mary Lou Goforth. He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Lee, and son, Glenn Kennedy and daughter in law, Karen Kennedy. Grandchildren - Staci Belcher and her husband Bill Belcher, Wendy Floyd, Erin Kennedy, and Matthew Kennedy. Great Grandchildren - Ryan Hanks, Tyler Hanks, Collin Floyd, Kelsey Belcher, Maghan Belcher, and Lauren Belcher. He is also survived by his special and caring sister, Hester Stephens, Athens, TN, his youngest brother, Lewis Kennedy, Houston, TX and two special nieces, Loretta Bivens and Elizabeth Maddox along with other nieces and nephews. Special thanks to his caregiver, Cynthia Martin, who loved and cared for him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Tyner United Methodist Church Care Bears in Chattanooga or to the Decatur United Methodist Church Building Fund in Decatur, TN. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Moseley officiating. Interment will follow at Beta Cemetery in Meigs County. Pallbearers will be Matthew Kennedy, Ryan Hanks, Tyler Hanks, Bill Belcher, Collin Floyd and Todd Floyd.
