David Orin, Durgin, 83 of Rossville, Georgia, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 2, 2010, at a local hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Durgin was born in 1926 in Chattanooga, TN, to parents Silas Orin and Myra Ruth Durgin, who preceded him in death, as did two sisters who died as infants, Martha and Elizabeth. He graduated from Gordon Lee High School and attended Lee College in Cleveland, Tennessee.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Clara Maye Tennyson Durgin and their five children: Mildred Hardeman and husband Steve of Brooksville, Fl; Tricia Miller and husband Julius of Clarkesville, Ga; David Durgin, Jr. and wife Patricia of Ellijay, Ga; Lynda Greene and husband Phil of Vidalia, Ga; and Billy Durgin and wife Angela of Cleveland, Tn; as well as 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Durgin was a Jewell Tea representative, an independent insurance agent and retired from Braddock Insurance Agency as an insurance underwriter. Throughout his career, he received various honors and awards for outstanding achievements.
His children were his most splendid accomplishment. His greatest legacy was his love for and service to God. He was a long time member of the East Ridge Church of God. Along with wife Clara Maye, he devoted decades of service in many leadership positions, including: Director of Children’s Church; Director of the Bus Ministry; Part-Time Director of the Senior Adult Minsitry and; Director of Outreach Ministries to various local nursing homes.
Mr. Durgin was a much loved and well respected leader in his family, church and community.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with The Reverend Danny Lance and Rev. Wendell Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Miller, Joshua Miller, Jake Durgin, Henry Sweeney, Patrick Ham, Richard Tennyson.
Interment will be at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made to Temple of Praise Church, 432 Mack Smith Road, Rossville, GA 30741. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Monday and after noon Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
