Our youngest son knew it was Sunday when he heard the voice of Ben Haden on the radio on Sunday mornings at 8 AM. We listened to Ben as long as his program, Changed Lives, was aired in the Atlanta area. We still have lots of his cassette tapes of messages and printed copies of his messages. Mary Alice Lynn

I just learned today of the passing of Ben Haden a few months ago. What an impact his messages through "Changed Lives" had on me. For many years, it was a Sunday night tradition for my family to tune in and listen to Ben deliver the gospel in his unique and captivating style. Only God knows the lives he touched through decades of ministry. Thank you, Ben Haden, for being faithful to the call. My sincere condolences to the family. Stan Wikle

Ben Hayden was instrumental in leading me to Christ while listening to him on Sunday mornings patrolling the streets of Charlotte, NC as a police officer in the 1980's. Since that time I have continued to give when I can to Changed Lives, followed him on his website, and will forever value this man and how he influenced my life then and now. Daniel Hepner

Ben was as important to me as J. Vernon McGee in the early 90's. I loved CHANGED LIVES and still do. I was sad to hear of Ben's passing, but I know he's exactly where he wants to be and who could blame him? God bless you, the family of Ben Haden. Thanks for sharing your family with God's family.

Dear Dallas, Arthur and sweet Haden -- Yes, Ben is in his eternal Heavenly home. While here, he was given a very special gift and God used it - in a mighty way. His purpose driven life became a mission accomplished life. His intellect, clarity, humor and the electrifying way in which he could simplify a message and connect with people was remarkable. I will never forget asking him about a book that we were going to do in last summer's bible study in Kennebunkport. When I asked for his advice on how to present "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren to our eclectic group, his simple yet profound answer was to allow the book to sell itself. Ben seemed to understand the human condition with all of our hang ups. He understood that Jesus was the only person in history who did everything right - not only in saving the world but in daily life. He understood that change takes time along with much prayer and tremendous patience. Was meeting Ben Haden during a difficult transition in my life a coincidence or an answer to prayer? Ben was a blessing...to me, to Serena and even to David. During my brief visits with him, his messages were reassuring, clear and deliberate. I will never forget his last words just a few days before God took him "home". In his very weak and frail condition, he just kept repeating, "He will direct you... He will direct you". And he didn't stop saying this until it was clear that the message was understood. I will draw on those words and find comfort and reassurance for the rest of my life. Serena, at her young age of 15, may not understand the significance of Ben's message to her just a few weeks ago - but, I know that her life will take on new meaning because of what he shared. Perhaps not right away- but, the words he spoke to her were so clear, so loving and powerful. Was it just by chance that we met you Dallas just four years ago and then through you met your father? I don't think so... I firmly believe that God places just the right people in our path of life at just the right time. He (and you) were an answer to prayer. For this I am eternally grateful to Ben and to our Heavenly Father. Ben was blessed with an exceptional family caring for his every need with love, kindness and patience. What a privilege it was to see this in action. God's blessings to you... With Great Love and Friendship, Patricia

Dear Dallas and Arthur,
I grieve for your loss today...but remember your wonderful daddy is now happy, healthy,
healed and whole with the Lord. He and I were very close friends...and doing the sermon for the children of the church
for almost thirty years was a special blessing for me. He once reminded me, "Remember, you have more children in the chapel than most
churches have people today!" We laughed together...played tennis once upon a time with each other...and prayed
together. Now he is with your mother...and all is well! Know you are in my thoughts and prayers. And never forget how very special each of you is too!! When you come to Florida, come to Vero Beach to see me! Love to you and yours.... David Walley

I will be eternally grateful for my father in the faith and brother in Christ Ben Haden. I was in the youth group at First Presbyterian Church Kingsport when Ben did his first evangelistic service - at our church. When Ben gave the invitation, I told my best friend, 'I don't know about what you are going to do, but I am going forward.' I had given my life to Christ by my bedside earlier, and it was my first true public declaration of my new life in Christ. [Ben always said I was the first one to go forward at one of his services!] When I would return home from college I would seek out Ben for his counsel and encouragement. Later I was burdened about a call to pastoral ministry; I went to Chattanooga to seek his counsel - 'If you are called you won't be able to stay away from it.' Just a few months later I heard God's call and entered seminary. [Which, by the way, was also Ben's counsel. I phoned him and said, 'OK, God has made His call clear. Now what?'. He suggested a seminary where God's Word was honored.] I have been on ordained pastor in the PCA now for 37 years. Ben Haden has gone before me, and I will rejoice when we greet one another in Christ's presence. Well done, my father and brother. May in all things our gracious Lord Jesus Christ be honored. J. Ben Haden was my person "with skin on him" who helped me through the death of my mother; I heard him speak on TV at a Billy Graham Crusade sharing his feelings when his mother suffered and died; I was 25 and had just returned home to Chattanooga from Memphis due to my mother's illness; Soon after hearing him speak, she had to be hospitalized; While I was staying with her in the hospital, I sat down and poured my heart out to Ben in a 9 page letter thanking him for his words of understanding which he had brought to me on TV; As soon as he received the letter, he and his wife appeared in my hospital room and continued to be my support persons throughout her illness and death; during our many hospitalizations, he would visit late at night and send her flowers from the church; He was a person with true compassion and love; I will always treasure his words and the sound of his soft voice which he leaves with us always;

Truly one of a kind - engaging speaker and one of the most caring individuals to all he met. I too was one of the many he visited in a local hospital several years ago. What a comfort he was and always talking about his wonderful family Charlyne and Dallas. Thank you Ben for being a faithful servant and kudos to Changed Lives. Dee McCamish

I met Ben when I came to Chattanooga in 1969 to be pastor of Central Presbyterian Church. I admired and respected Ben Haden. He was a man of vision and a deep commitment to His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and her family. Grace and Peace, Matt and Louise McGowan

There will never be another Ben Haden. He had me captured the first time I heard him.
My daughter was 16, and we have been at First Pres since. He was what I was looking for In a pastor. I'll never forget that he came to see my daughter who was at Memorial Hosp. to get her wisdom teeth out. I was at the elevator with pillows and lots of other things. I had never met him before, and he said, "let me have those things and I will help you to the car." I was amazed! We have become very close friends over the years. He has always been there for us in the good times, and the bad times. We were away on vacation, and I heard from my daughter that he was very ill. He came to see my husband who was in Memorial Hosp
every time he was there but one. We went to dinner with him about 5 weeks ago. I made pictures, and they are so good of him. I sent him a copy. I can't put into words what he has meant in my life and my husband's life. I just can't explain it in words. We loved Ben more than anyone else in our family. And I was able to tell him that long distance. And thank the Lord that we returned home on Thursday and will be able to be a part of his Memorial Service. Dallas, you and your family have been in our prayers and thoughts daily. What a terrible loss it is for you, but Heaven is rejoicing that they have our Ben. I'm sure he is meeting people that he led to the Lord. What a man he is, and what a Christ he served most willingly. We love you. Bobbie & Gordon Hixson

I remember Ben Haden well when he was in Kingsport and leading our First Presbyterian youth group. He was really great with us teens and had a way about him that made you really bond with him and his teachings. That was in the 50's and I am sure that now, he would have made an even stronger bond with most teens and all ages, as well. He and his wife worked with us and they formed a lot of our morals and ideals that I have today and try to impart to my grandchildren. Ben was really a wonderful Christian leader. Becky Bartak Wells

Ben was the only pastor I ever had. I am now retired, but I also served as a Presbyterian pastor for about forty years. Losing Ben is harder than losing my father. Bill Serjak
